PHOENIX — Miami’s Daequan Cook needed overtime to edge Orlando’s Rashard Lewis in the 3-point shootout on Saturday night.

Lewis sputtered in the extra third session, missing his first 11 shots to finish with seven points, 12 fewer than Cook.

PHOENIX DIARY: The Star’s Jeff Rabjohns reports on the behind-the-scenes happenings of NBA All-Star Weekend.

Cook had forced overtime by hitting his final four shots in the second round of the six-man competition.

Two-time champion Jason Kapono came up one point short in the second round. The Toronto Raptors sharpshooter was trying to become the third player to capture three straight titles in the popular All-Star Saturday event.

Mike Bibby of the Atlanta Hawks, Danny Granger of Indiana and Roger Mason of San Antonio were eliminated in the first round.
