Grammy Award-winning singer Sylvia McNair is coming home to perform tonight in Indianapolis.

The native Hoosier will appear for a taping of “Mickey’s Corner” at 7 p.m. at the Arthur M. Glick JCC.

“This is a rare opportunity to be up close to a performer of Sylvia’s caliber and to meet the artist at the end of the show,” JCC marketing director Mindi Epstein wrote in a recent e-mail to The Star.

McNair, a faculty member at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, will discuss her 25-year singing career and her struggle with breast cancer. The soprano-turned-jazz singer will also perform for the audience, accompanied by Adam Burnette, according to the JCC.

The event is free and open to the public. The JCC is at 6701 Hoover Road, Indianapolis. WFYI will broadcast the show at 9 p.m. Nov. 20.
