After many long months of tight deadlines, I finally pulled myself away for a long needed respite. San Francisco is the single best place for recharging my creative batteries that I have found. With urban amenities like not other, a lush creative landscape, great parks and museums and a mystifying level of diversity, this city is always leaving me impressed and hungry for more.

This trip, the event that really stands out was a concert at the Mezzanine featuring the Go Team. If you are unfamiliar with this group, you had best get acquainted. There are few bands out there with the sheer excitement and bubblegum goodness of this British band.

The band has a unique wholesomeness that makes their form of indie pop rock more than infectious. They are one of those rare groups who actually sound better live. With each new track the crowd increased their energy and the band followed suit. The terribly cute lead vox is ninja, a sort of mother earth meets cheerleader type of individual. Wildly dancing during the breaks, she certainly has a way of stirring the spirits of fans.

One notable characteristic of this group is their inclination to change positions throughout their set. At the start one member may be playing drums only to sing and play the recorder for the very next track. Their set consisted of mostly work from their older album, Thunder Lightning Strike, but they did include many of the tracks from their newest release, Proof of Youth.

For those of you who like the band's first album but haven't had the opportunity to hear Proof of Youth, you will want to look into it. It has the same energy and appeal of the first album but seems to have a little more soul. There is a greater diversity of sounds and influences on the new album and it hints at a bright future for these creative young musicians.

Their show at the Music Mill in August '06 was a blast.

Just checked out their Web site: http://www.thegoteam.co.uk Not exactly my type of music, but I'll trust you that they are better in person. But, the Web site definitely gets a thumbs-up ... The texture and unique approaches to content are great.
