Garner leads Evansville over Buffalo 64-49

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Nate Garner scored a career-high 20 points and Evansville beat Buffalo 64-49 Saturday night to go 3-0 at the start of a season for the first time in nine years.

Garner, a senior whose previous high was 15 points a year ago against Austin Peay, led four Purple Aces players in double figures.

Shy Ely had 14 points, including three layups during a 9-0 run that put Evansville in control in the first half. James Haarsma matched his career high with 13 points and pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds, and Jason Holsinger added 10 points for the Aces.

Evansville took a 32-21 lead at halftime. The Bulls (2-1) never came closer than 8 points after that, and Evansville took its biggest lead at 64-42 on a basket by Haarsma with 1:48 remaining.

Greg Gamble led Buffalo with 15 points and Rodney Pierce added 10.
