with the lease up on the Murphy building in Fountain Square, what do you see as being a formidable or at least acceptable use of the spaces inside?

AND

where will the next "artists building" pop up in the city?

Does anyone have any timetable for this? Will Big Car, Dolphin Papers and Alchemy be forced to move or close? When? How about Gusto?

I worry that without the art groups, what makes Fountain Square attractive in the first place will be diminished.

I heard about this too. What a blow to the arts community. I believe November is somewhat the end...or beginning? I am curious to see what's going to happen next. Artists are survivors and they'll find a new place/home, but instead of a 'scene', the group might be more scattered and less cohesive than its been lately. Hope for the best.

They've built something great there. It's a shame to see it go. You'd think that some filthy rich patron of the arts could pony up the millions and keep the thing afloat in perpetuity. If I were the artists, I'd start approaching such people and letting them know about this.

The current owner of the building has moved out, he was living there. We know he will no longer be in possession of the building. Things are strangely tight lipped.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if a condo company had already bought it out. If something positive was going to happen you think there'd be fanfare and hoopla over it.

I honestly can't see any development happening at that site right now. There is no money for new development in this economy - another condo project was stopped recently and there are tons of mostly empty buildings around downtown. Unless some developer wants to set his/her money on fire, I don't see it happening.

Fill me in. What does the Murphy Building losing its lease mean? Doesn’t someone own the building??
