Funeral services are scheduled Thursday for an Indianapolis lawyer who died after he crashed his bicycle in a training ride last week.

Charles Avery Kirk, 48, will be remembered in a ceremony at North United Methodist Church, 3808 N. Meridian St.

Kirk was on a training ride with about 40 other cyclists Sept. 9 when several riders crashed, said Tom Schumacher, a member of the Central Indiana Bicycling Association, who was on the ride.

The crash happened in the 6700 block of Hoover Road near the Arthur M. Glick JCC. Kirk injured his back and underwent surgery but died Saturday, friends said.
