Bringing your dog to obedience training is one of the best things you can do. A well-trained dog is a joy to a spend time with, is well-received in public, and obedience training helps build a strong bond with your companion. It's fun, too.

The Humane Society of Johnson County's first session of spring obedience classes begins March 10. The group class runs eight weeks, and dogs learn basic obedience skills such as how to sit, stay and come when called. Group sessions also help dogs work on socialization skills.

The fee is $85. Participants registered and paid at least a week before the beginning of classes will receive a $5 discount.

To register, call the Humane Society of Johnson County at (317) 535-6626 or go online to www.hsjc.org for a registration form and mail with your check (Mastercard/Visa/Discover accepted) to HSJC, 3827 N. Graham Road, Franklin, IN 46131.

About the Shelter Without Walls foster program: The Humane Society of Johnson County does not have a shelter and cannot accept any animals. Animals are placed with foster families to await adoption.

To adopt: Adoptable pets are available for viewing from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursdays at the Humane Society of Johnson County Pet Center, 3827 N. Graham Road, Franklin.

Costs: All animals have been spayed or neutered, are current on vaccinations, microchipped and have been tested for heartworm or feline leukemia. If they tested negative, they are on monthly preventive medicine. The normal cost to adopt a dog is $125; for cats, it is $100.

Information: Go to www.hsjc.org and select the Featured Adoptable Pet link to see other animals available for adoption. For more information, call (317) 535-6626.

To volunteer: Foster parents are sought. Send e-mail to marianhsjc@embarqmail .com for a foster parent package. Volunteers are needed to help with events or on fundraising and event committees.
