Freedom to own guns not restricted to army

The statement in the letter (“Restrict gun sales for a more peaceful union”) that the Constitution emphatically points out that its purpose in allowing gun ownership was to provide a well-regulated militia is debatable. A standing army was established on June 14, 1784. The Second Amendment was added on Dec. 15, 1791. If the standing army was already in existence, why add the Second Amendment? To ensure a free state from tyranny of the government. We, the people, have always seen freedom as the cornerstone of American life, at least most of us.
