Grocery merchant U.S. Foodservice plans to close its Bloomington facility, eliminating 200 workers.

The Illinois-based company said it expects the shutdown to occur on or around Oct. 3. A letter to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development detailing the cuts did not specify a reason. The cuts include 110 drivers and 49 warehouse workers. There’s no word about how the closure affects the U.S. Foodservice operations in Fishers.Although North Star confirmed the number of cuts by telephone today, it referred all calls to its corporate headquarters. The closing decision was announced Wednesday to the Bloomington workers.WIBC-FM reported that the reason could include losing a large chain customer.

The company says on its Web site that it provides food and related products and services to more than 250,000 customers, including restaurants, hospitals, hotels, schools and governmental operations. It employs more than 26,000 associates and operate more than 60 distribution centers.
