Lori Ralston developed MonkeysAndMe.com to provide families with an interactive events calendar featuring free or inexpensive activities on the Eastside and Downtown. The self-described “sometime writer/columnist and full-time mom” also seeks out kid-friendly, healthful and inexpensive places to eat. This list is approved by her two little “monkeys.”

La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant (6429 E. Washington St.)./b The circular building sets off this well-known Irvington restaurant. Both 3-year-old Alli and 10-month-old Avery dive into the refried beans and rice. I love the friendly staff, quick service and all the vegetarian options.

b Jockamo’s Upper Crust Pizza (5646 E. Washington St.)./b This place is always yummy. Alli highly recommends eating the soft breadsticks and nacho cheese dipping sauce. My favorite: the cheese pizza with ricotta. The simple ricotta twist makes it truly delicious.

b Creation Cafe (Buggs Temple, 337 W. 11th St.)./b A great place to sit back and enjoy the Downtown skyline. Alli loves to dine on the patio and watch the gondolas and paddleboats. The food is excellent and suits patrons of all ages. The kids’ menu offers typical fare — but it’s far tastier.

b Ellenberger Park Farmers Market (5301 E. St. Clair St.)./b This outdoor market offers a fantastic variety of fresh produce. Alli and Avery recommend munching on the guacamole and chips as you stroll. I like the fact that Alli can pick out locally grown produce for our family’s dinners and snacks.

b Lazy Daze Coffee House (10 S. Johnson Ave.)./b This cozy little coffeehouse is tucked away on a small street in Irvington. On a hot summer day, it’s also an ideal place to grab some ice cream, sit on the outside deck and listen to a free concert.
