Five things I love
Keira Amstutz is president and CEO of the Indiana Humanities Council.
In addition to celebrating National Arts and Humanities Month this October, the council is planning the launch of a two-year program called “Food for Thought,” which will celebrate and examine Indiana’s food culture. (For more information, visit www.indianahumanities.org.)
The perfect lunch pairing: R Bistro (888 Massachusetts Ave.) and The Best Chocolate in Town (880 Massachusetts Ave.). Chef Regina Mehallick’s soups and warm root vegetable salads feature locally grown produce. Visit Elizabeth Garber at The Best Chocolate in Town for a truffle or toffee.
Great weeknight carryout: Sizzling Wok (7280 Michigan Road). I have been known to drive across town in a rainstorm for Sizzling Wok’s unbelievable rice-paper-wrapped goi rolls with a spicy peanut dipping sauce and savory lemongrass chicken.
“Super” market: Goose The Market (2503 N. Delaware St.) For a quick lunch or to solve the perennial problem of what to have for dinner tonight, Goose is the answer. This market has it all. Not sure what to buy? Ask owner Chris Eley for his wise recommendations.
Start your day off right: Cafe Patachou (4911 N. Pennsylvania St.) I’m embarrassed to admit how many Patachou omelets (with feta and mushroom) I must have eaten over the years. Try the homemade granola with yogurt, berries and bananas, and top it off with a slice of heavenly coconut cake.
Delaware Street treasure: The Villa Restaurant and Spa (1456 N. Delaware St.) Owner Jeneane Life and her team offer a great menu with outdoor dining in nice weather. When it’s cold, cozy up to the fireplace for the warm salmon salad or soup in the gorgeous and intimate dining room.
