First Record
What's the first record you ever bought? What format was it: 45, cassingle, 8-track,CD e.p.? Do you still listen to it? What memories does it evoke?
That Bangles album was the first cassette tape I ever bought with my own money.
First record I ever bought was a 45 RPM single of I Saw Her Standing There by the Beatles. It was 89 cents at the GC Murphy store in Broad Ripple, basically where Scholar's Inn and Hotbox Pizza are at Collage and Broad Ripple Av.
The Beatles changed nearly everything in popular music, starting with that song. They'd been around for a few years, incorporating everyone else's music into theirs, but when they really did their own thing and released it in the US it made everybody stop what they were doing and notice. They were probably the most disruptive musical force of the era, James Brown being second to them. He was as disruptive, but the changes he introduced weren't accepted as immediately as the Beatles'.
