Fireside Brewhouse
Fireside Brewhouse, 997 E. County Line Road, is one of the latest additions to Southside dining. And while the food will speak for itself, Fireside would like to be known for a little more. "We've put a lot of thought into our upscale environment and entertainment," said co-owner, Shawn Cannon, as he gestured to numerous HDTVs mounted throughout the restaurant and bar area. Cannon thinks Fireside's sports-focused atmosphere and late-night scene will drive this venture's popularity.
Anchoring the experience is a large menu designed by chef Tommy Thompson, whose cuisine is self-described as having strong Caribbean and Southwest influences. Thompson's hoping to excite diners with fresh fish specials, such as Wahoo (or Ono, in Hawaii), sockeye salmon and mako shark. Advertisement
A full bar provides staple libations, with the addition of microbrews from Indiana's own Three Floyds, Oaken Barrel and Upland.

The name of this place reminded me of the Fireside on Raymond Street. What ever happened to the Fireside South Restaurant? Are all of our wonderful, older family owned and family style restaurants biting the dust? Did people just fail to support such venues? Would people rather eat at the brainwash venues such as Applebees? I ask you,,,
I think this place looks lovely and is a welcome addition to the south side. However, some serious works needs to be done on the food, both the menu and the execution. On the menu itself, it is really not that sizable, because it includes sandwiches which they won't let you order in the evening. If you are going to restrict the sandwiches to lunch time, it should be on a separate menu. It only serves to frustrate your customers if they see items and are then told they aren't available. Not a good policy. The items we ordered were adequate, but nothing more. Our appetizer was swimming in sour cream (which I don't believe was listed on the menu for that item), Items were bland, and the steak, ordered medium, was served well-done. I really want to like this place, but they have a lot of work to do.
The person was simply giving their opinion. No need to attack them. After all, that's what reviews are for, the sharing of personal experiences. Instead of making excuses and talking trash about someone, embrace open discussion. Are you somehow involved in the operation of the restaurant becuase you seem to have taken the review very personally?

I recently dined at the Fireside Brewhouse, and I have a mixed review. The atmosphere was indeed pleasant; I enjoyed the rustic-meets-urban decor, and the staff was friendly and accommodating.
The food was hit or miss. I ordered a pasta dish with sausage and shrimp; unfortunately the oversized plate contained only 4 small sausage pieces and 4 modest-sized shrimp, and the sauce was bland and oily. My brother ordered the ribs; he said they were tender and the sauce was tasty. My mom ordered the tilapia, which was flavorful but overcooked.
Evaluating the Brewhouse status, they do offer a large and diverse selection of bottled beers. However their draught beers are pretty standard: the domestic majors, Guinness, Blue Moon, and the like.
Overall, I'd not turn down an invitation to go there again, but there are other places I'd prefer.

Fiesty1 - I'm sorry if I offended you, but you might take the time to read my post again and realize that there were positive comments as well as constructive criticism. For the record, we did not complain, as the food was adequate. However, my comments are the type management needs to hear. Too few people comment and then restaurants wonder why people don't come back. I want them to succeed and genuinely hope that they do. I will likely try them again in hopes of having a really positive experience. However, it does not seem that my experience was unique to me, as chewbeckah also had a mixed reaction to the Brewhouse. A locally owned establishment is exactly the kind of restaurant that I favor and would prefer to spend my money. However, I did not experience anything here that will likely make me choose the Brewhouse over the Oaken Barrel, another locally owned restaurant which is very close in proximity but, at least currently, far exceeds the Brewhouse in consistency and quality.
As for the menu, you are absolutely correct that other places often combine their lunch and dinner menus. However, there is frequently a lot of overlap and the lunch menu reflects smaller portions. It is actually more uncommon to have them combined in the same menu and have the items be distinctly different. It is a business choice, and obviously a valid one as it is their choice to do as they wish, however, as a customer, it left me disappointed.

As for Dexter, what can one say, first of all dude Webster's II Dictionary look at your text before you send. The answer would be a big "NO", just don't like to see a place dogged, especially a non-chain that is trying. Like people, if you don't give them a fair chance, you never would have known. I'am sure this place being NEW is very aware of what they need to work on, changes like most places take place on a daily bases. As far as chewbecah, listen chick,what's up with the Fiesty1 - what the hell, dude? It's just a discussion board. Is cussing really needed, come on. Very aware this is a discussion board, I think Oaken Barrel is right up your alley with the talk and attitude (their food is way spicy, their surrounding dark/drab,and beer's match their decor). Fiesty1 could be male or female! For me, don't care what anyone else thinks, I am tired of giving the big chains my money, I'd rather back the independent business's, case in point Bobby Joe's Beef and Brew, Bugg's Temple, Azabache Mexican Restaurant, Broad Ripple Brew Pub just to name a few and yes Fireside Brewhouse, because I would like to see this place make it on the SOUTHSIDE.

I was very please with the place. The atmosphere was good, the service was decent and the food I found outstanding. The blue cheese bacon burger was great. Cooked as ordered with a generous helping of blue cheese and thick sliced bacon. Everyone at our table was very pleased with their food and would recommend the restaurant to anyone. I will be going back to try many of the other items on the menu. Thanks for bringing another good restaurant to the southside.
I agree 100% in supporting non-chain restaurants or local chains (i.e. Yats). I think Fireside will do very well in the long run, but like any new restaurant they have a few kinks to work out. It reminds me a little of Mudsocks in Noblesville when it first opened. Mudsocks has worked out the kinks and is now the #2 rated sports bar in town on the IndyChannel.com rankings. This place has a chance to be in that category.
As far as the menu is concerned, it's a little confusing in terms of what's available, when. I would have a simple lunch menu (since the items that they offer at lunch are burgers and sandwiches) and then use the regular menu for dinner. Our waiter totally screwed our order up, but it all got worked out in the end. Again, these are things that can be worked out.
This place has a great location, great size, and lots of outdoor seating. Their beer selection is fantastic and the food that we had was good overall (some things were very average and some things were outstanding). I have been there twice and plan to go back next week. I own a business on the southside and I would really like to see this place make it.
My husband and I tried Fireside the first week it was open last year. It took a good 15-20 for our server to re-appear with our drinks. I had just had surgery on my throat and was unable to eat anything too solid so I asked for a -plain baked potato. You would have thought that I had asked for caviar. Our server was gone another 15 to ask if I could have a baked potato (it was on the menu). The service and food was terrible from then on. We decided it wasn’t worth coming back.
So last night, we decided to give it one more try since it’s been about 10 months. We sat on their patio, and got as far as a couple of drinks were forgotten about. I even went inside to ask who our server was and tell the manager that it had been 30 minutes with no service. She never came back. Finally, we asked for our bill for the drinks and she appeared with it as though she had absolutely no idea that she’d never ever taken our order. We were deliberately ignored and I have no idea why.
This place is a waste of time and effort. Their food is crappy and to call yourself a brew-pub and not make your own brew is a crock.
