A Wayne Township firefighter is midway through his goal of making 100 parachute jumps in one day.

“The first 50 jumps were right on schedule and he’s going strong,” said Amber Wright, spokeswoman for the Cyanide Poison Treatment Coalition, the organization backing the jumps by Joe Frolick. The coalition is holding a symposium on the potential dangers of cyanide poisoning from fires to the firefighters who may be exposed to those fumes during the many times they need to extinguish fires.

Frolick is making the jumps at the Warren County Airport near Lebanon, Ohio, outside of Cincinnati. He started jumping under ideal conditions around 7 a.m., and is expected to keep jumping until after 7 p.m. Frolick and his supporters said making 100 parachute jumps would set a record for the most jumps in Ohio in one day by one person.
