A fire today damaged an auto shop on the Northeastside.

The fire at T Mac Automotive, 3820 N. Keystone Ave., started just before noon in a storage area, said Capt. Rita Reith, a spokesperson for the Indianapolis Fire department. The cause appears to be electrical. No one was injured.

Owner Terry McLaurin said the flames started in a storage area while he stepped away from the business. Workers Ralph Cooper and Grant Squires tried to put out the fire with extinguishers. When that failed, they called 911.

The business is divided into an area with six garage bays and one with a two story office. The fire was contained to the offices but damage was estimated at $50,000.

It took firefighters from 15 trucks and other vehicles 20 minutes to put out the blaze.

The building used to house Palmer Dodge, and the owners are in the process of closing down this business and selling the property.
