Finish Line to lay off 20 from its headquarters

Indianapolis-based Finish Line today announced it is laying off 20 employees at its corporate headquarters.

“To maintain a strong balance sheet in this economy, we had to make this move,” said Elise Hasbrook, spokeswoman for Finish Line.

Retailers are bracing for a dismal holiday season. Last Christmas retail sales dropped 2.2 percent, largest decline since 1970 the first year International Council of Shopping Centers recording sales.

Finish Line, a retailer of athletic footwear, apparel and accessories, operates 700 stores in 47 states.
