Police on Sunday arrested a 57-year-old man in the fatal stabbing of his longtime fiancee.

David Moro, 300 block of North Rural Street, faces a preliminary charge of reckless homicide in connection with the death of Shiela Raulerson, 50, said Lt. Jeffrey Duhamell, a spokesman for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Duhamell said Moro stabbed Raulerson after she stabbed him with a kitchen knife on New Year's Eve while the two were drinking.

The stabbing wounded Raulerson's lower left stomach, but she refused to call an ambulance. Instead, a family member with some medical training treated the wound, Duhamell said.

He said Raulerson was alive Thursday but was found dead at 8:15 a.m. Friday.

Police at first did not treat the death as a homicide, but after an autopsy revealed Raulerson had died of a stab wound, Moro was arrested.
