Everything you do, you still audition
I want to send a little shout out to every young person who has ever told me that they wanted to move to the Big Apple and be an actor. As a former actress/musician and whatever else you may want to call me, I am hear to tell you...don't quit your day job. Why is is that so many people think the answer is to drop everything and move to a huge city where their chances are miniscule it isn't even funny? More than likely, they have seen one too many movies that depict this same sort of scenario, or they heard about the one time it worked out and they are convinced they will be the one to beat the odds. Whatever thoughts you have of "making it" in the theatre, I am hear to tell you, can all begin right here in Indy. Most of the time major production producers (whether a Broadway or touring company) aren't interested in someone with no acting experience, so being in any show, gives you a leg up on making it to the next level. We are so fortunate here in Indy that we have so many opportunities to get involved with the arts. There are audition notices in the Star Sunday and many of these companies will welcome newcomers. Buck Creek, Footlight, Civic, and who knows where else. I know it is tough to find yourself in the chorus after you just had the lead in your church performance or high school musical (no pun intended) but, remember how you conduct yourself will be noticed by the director and the more you do, the more likely you are to be called back for auditions and future shows. My point being, you don't have to leave Indy to get your big break, or at least your first big break. You can become a big duck in a small pond before running away to a city where there is always a bigger fish. (metaphorically speaking) Remember: Even when you get some recognition, everything you do, you still audition. Let me know about where you have auditioned locally and who is the most open to new actors.

Thanks for crushing my dreams Julie. :-(
Just wanted to point out that there is an auditions category in the event listings on Indy.com. There are more than a few auditions coming up just within the next week.

Not trying to crush any dreams...only trying to show how to use the local connections to help them come true! I have found that most people just don't start at the top, but those who have lasting "star quality" get there by paying a LOT of dues
