The concerts at this year’s edition of Indiana Black Expo’s Summer Celebration will cater to budget-minded music fans.

Long-running R&B band Maze featuring Frankie Beverly and contemporary vocalist Musiq Soulchild are set to perform July 19 during Summer Celebration’s traditional free show at American Legion Mall.

In a change from recent Summer Celebration programs, a ticketed concert will not be staged at Conseco Fieldhouse or at the Indiana Convention Center’s Sagamore Ballroom. Past headliners include Keyshia Cole (a $65 or $49.99 ticket in 2008) and Mary J. Blige (a $48.99 or $45.99 ticket in 2006).

Instead, a series of musical acts will be presented in conjunction with Summer Celebration’s health fair and consumer exhibits.

Eric Benet, SWV, the Sugarhill Gang, Whodini, Doug E. Fresh and Alex Bugnon will perform throughout the day July 18 in Hall A of the convention center.

Admission will be $10, or $8 if tickets are purchased in advance. Tickets will include access to the health fair, consumer exhibits and cultural arts pavilion.

An on-sale date for tickets has yet to be announced.

The 39th annual Summer Celebration is July 9-19. For more information, visit www.indianablackexpo.com
