Emmy nominees wake up to great news

The stars welcomed this particular early wakeup call. TV's finest from both sides of the camera received news of their Emmy nominations Thursday morning. USA TODAY caught up with some of the nominees.

Simon Baker
Actor (drama), The Mentalist, CBS
Reaction: "The odds were against me. … I thought the category was overloaded with talented people."
Birthday gift: "I'm 40 in two weeks. … My kids think I'm old and over the hill. But this is a pretty good birthday present."

Aaron Paul
Supporting actor (drama),Breaking Bad, AMC
Reaction: "My manager called me. … He was like, 'You gotta wake up, man! You're nominated!' It still doesn't seem real. It really doesn't."
Celebration plans: "I think I'm going to have moments of silence and also moments of freaking out, screaming and jumping up and down."

Jane Krakowski
Actress (comedy), 30 Rock, NBC
Reaction: "It's been a lovely morning. … People were calling me and telling me I was nominated."
Celebration plans:  "I'm taking my mom and dad (to the theater). I'm seeing God of Carnage. I hear it's great."

Michael Emerson
Supporting actor (drama), Lost, ABC
Reaction: "It's an honor because it comes from your peer group. At the same time, there's grief because you're in a group with actors like (Mad Men's) John Slattery. I love that guy."
Credit goes to: "It continues to be about the writing."

Jimmy Smits
Guest actor (drama), Dexter, Showtime
Reaction: "These guys (show writers) really stepped up to the plate. You never know when you're going into one of these arcs. They gave me so different shades to play."
Celebration plans: "I'm dealing with a 10-year-old truck with a bum transmission. It doesn't go in reverse. There goes the whole Hollywood myth."

Kyra Sedgwick
Actress (drama), The Closer, TNT
Reaction:  "It's a huge vote of confidence for the work you're doing."
On husband Kevin Bacon's nod: "Hetotally deserves it and more, to me. It's so nice for us to go together! I can be the loving, supportive one instead of him always being the loving, supportive one."

Kevin Bacon
Actor (miniseries/movie),Taking Chance, HBO
Reaction: "It's so awesome. It's such a cliché, but it's so true."
Celebration plans: "We're both working. I'm directing another episode of The Closer. I have to shoot on Sunday. I'm prepping."

John Slattery
Supporting actor (drama), Mad Men, AMC
Reaction: "I think it's certainly the best writing I've ever been privileged to be associated with." The show was nominated for best drama series.
Celebration plans: "Knowing this group, you don't really have to twist anybody's arm to get them to consider a cocktail."

Sigourney Weaver
Actress (miniseries/movie), Prayers for Bobby, Lifetime
Reaction:  "All of us were over the moon. It's a movie that the producers were trying to get on for 13 years. We shot this movie in 21 days."
Celebration plans: "I'll be celebrating by being on the set and working."

Kristin Chenoweth
Actress (comedy), Pushing Daisies, ABC
Reaction: "It's been one of those deliriously happy sleepy mornings."
Celebration plans: "When I played Olive, I had a weird thing I would do with craft services: I would fight off the grip department for the apple fritter. I would eat the edges like a crazy actress and give the middle to one of the grips. But today I think I'm going to eat the whole damn thing — just in honor of her."

Toni Collette
Actress (comedy), United States of Tara, Showtime
Reaction: "I completely love this show. I'm so honored."
Celebration plans: "Since hearing about the nomination, we've eaten scrambled eggs and I've read a Curious George book to my daughter (Sage, 6 months) about seven times. It's a pretty ordinary day."
