I am not surprised by the letters to the editor referring to Tom Ehrich’s columns on religion. But I must take exception to some of their views.

I do not always agree with the Episcopal priest, but he is unafraid to question what we as Christians do and do not do. What he does do is force us to think instead of blindly following the same old path.

We find that many of our mainline churches fail to grow because they do not offer current answers to those struggling with faith in their lives. Those churches that do respond to the times often find growth by addressing people’s spiritual needs in today’s complex world.

Like business, government, medicine and other entities, nothing can remain stagnant, unless the churches want to fail. Ehrich offers a good basis for introspection, dialogue and responsible change.
