A 23-year-old Fishers man partying with friends apparently drowned in a 38-acre lake on the grounds of the Indianapolis Museum of Art this morning.

The Indianapolis Fire Department was called to the scene near 38th Street and Michigan Road about 2:30 a.m. Divers recovered the body in about 15 feet of water, approximately 60 feet from the shore.

Friends said the victim, Joshua Stephenson, had been drinking, Capt. Rita Reith, fire department spokeswoman, said in a news release. The man entered the lake and never resurfaced.

Foul play is not suspected, said Sgt Matthew W. Mount, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokesman.

The lake is part of the museum’s Virginia B Fairbanks Art and Nature Park, which is under construction.
