Don't use domestic violence to promote gun-rights issues

Bob Palma’s July 2 letter to the editor sadly misses the point of the June 28 report on three recent victims of domestic violence. Palma seems to imply that the victims are at fault for their own murders for not taking the time to purchase guns and learn how to use them. Guns may or may not have protected these victims of violence; however, invoking the Second Amendment only serves as a distraction from the true issue. Though some individuals may be more comfortable letting victims of domestic violence take the blame for their own abuse, it is time to face the facts and understand that the three men charged with murdering their own wives are completely culpable, not the women who suffered at their hands.
