Don't say 'I do' to taxes on wedding receptions
Anyone who would propose a tax on weddings would be chided out of office. Yet, the sales tax and the food and beverage taxes do just that. Sen. Luke Kenley’s proposal to increase the food and beverage tax only adds to that burden. Now at least 11 percent of a catered wedding reception will be taxed. Perhaps our legislature should exempt wedding receptions from the food and beverage tax. Why should anyone’s wedding be taxed to pay for Downtown development or a professional sports team?
