Everyone happy to have one kinda "Indie" theater left in our state? Happy that the same theater folds like a lawn chair come summer time to play EVERY summer blockbuster they can sqeeze onto every screen they have? Can't wait 'till '09 and see Transformers 2,Step up 3,and the re-make of a Nightmare on Elm Street! I'm in Iraq and I wish I could've done more to help before I left and I wish others would helped period! Price of gas high..well $1 dollars movies cheap..next excuse? we are looked upon as a joke in the Indie film community/world...I guess the joke is finally on us!

That is very sad news. I hope Ron is able to find another theater, maybe a little farther north.

I am very sad to hear that it's closing. When my daughter was at Herron, some of the film students would showcase their indie movies there. I have not been in touch with what is showing there but it was always a great place for the indie movies locally or national movies.

I hear that the Georgetown Cinema near Lafayette Rd. & Georgetown is starting to show some of these type of movies.

I wish the best for Ron and hope he can maybe keep his place or get another place.

My take is that it's light out for Key Cinemas at that location on the Southside, but not for Ron Keedy and his mission to showcase independent film. I would bet dollars he'll show up again at another venue.

He's said to me a few times that his audience is really up north, but that he had problems finding a good location up there. The old AMC Clearwater building is probably too big for what he wants (and too close to Keystone Art), but there's a lot of land up in Noblesville if he wanted to build (though it's probably expensive as all get out and not within his budget constraints).

Yeah, there are a lot of potential spots that have been speculated about. I even hard talk about the old Sunflower Farmers Market in Broad Ripple, which would be awesome! But you'd have to sell a mountain of popcorn to make that rent...

I,for one, would LOVE it if the new Key was on the Northside..it'd be great to have a real art theater up north!

The Eastside is short on movie houses in general, and has no offbeat spots whatsoever. The Irvington area would be an interesting alternative.

Actually, it's funny you say that, as the former AMC Eastgate location is small (I think 5 or 6 screens) and is very, very empty. It's not quite Irvington, but it's just off of Irvington.

I'm not sure that's exactly the demo Ron's looking for, but it's an option.

It's funny how, even though Indy is quite easy to get around in for a large city, there's a very Balkanized notion about only frequenting businesses on "our side" of town.

The last time I patronized Key, I made it from my Broad Ripple door step to the theater in 25 minutes flat. Not exactly an arduous journey.

But for whatever reason, Northside people tend to eschew Eastside and Southside cinemas and other venues. And the Eastsiders and Southsiders would boycott the Northside except, well, everything's up there.

I would admit, though, that a theater right smack in Broad Ripple would do stellar business. I love the idea of walking to the movies.

Glendale's very close, although that seems to be the cinema of choice for packs of 13-year-olds who like to roam from theater to theater while text-messaging the entire time...

I lived(used to)about 2 miles from the Landmark and I would still have to drive about a half hour to "the Key" to see the art films I wanted to see..I've allways believed that if you want something you have to look for it..it goes double for film(you can go anywhere to see a Dane Cook movie...you have to drive far to see a David Lynch film!) man I wish he was not shutting the theater down...but I hope you all send "The Key" off in style these last few weeks left..I WOULD GIVE ANYTHING..to be there on the 5th!

How about relocating to the Carmel Arts & Design district?
