Dixon outruns teammate Franchitti for win at Richmond
RICHMOND, Va. — Scott Dixon grabbed the lead from teammate Dario Franchitti on pit road midway through the race and went on to earn his 19th career IndyCar Series victory, tying Sam Hornish Jr.’s series record.
Dixon and Franchitti, teammates with Target Chip Ganassi Racing, and Graham Rahal all benefited from fortunate timing, twice avoiding making pit stops under green flag racing and having their patience pay off with yellow flags.
Their good luck was bad news for Andretti-Green Racing teammates Danica Patrick and Hideki Mutoh, who needed the race to go caution-free late to have a chance at victory.
Rahal finished third, Mutoh fourth and Patrick fifth, her fifth top five in eight races.
