Daniels to go barefoot for charity
Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels will appear barefoot in his office Friday morning with IUPUI basketball coach Ron Hunter to support Hunter's effort to raise awareness for Samaritan's Feet.
The announcement came this afternoon during a national teleconference to discuss Hunter's efforts with the charity. Coaches from around the country are joining Hunter in coaching barefoot this year.
Hunter will coach barefoot Saturday at the IUPUI Gymnasium, the second year he has done so.
Hunter, whose work with Samaritan's Feet has generated worldwide attention for the charity, is aiming to raise 1 million pairs of shoes.
Hunter coached barefoot last year, and along with assistant coach Todd Howard and some of his players personally distributed donated shoes to impoverished children in Peru.
Hunter said he may ask college basketball coaches and players from other schools to join the distribution this year and may do so nationally as well as internationally.
