Danica Patrick has no comment on future
Danica Patrick was in Indianapolis on Friday, but she didn’t comment on her future as a race car driver.
When asked about signing a contract to remain in the IndyCar Series or continuing to pursue options in NASCAR, Patrick offered nothing but a blank stare.
It was the same response she gave reporters Wednesday in Homestead, Fla., during an IndyCar test.
“I’m going to answer for her,” a senior official from AirTran Airways said during a promotional gathering at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
His tension-breaking response drew laughter, but he also did not answer the question.
Andretti Green Racing and IndyCar Series sources have told The Star that Patrick signed a new contract with Michael Andretti’s team at the Japan race two weeks ago. Andretti did not deny the signing but said the document was still in the hands of lawyers.
Patrick said Aug. 22 at Sonoma, Calif., she had decided to remain with Andretti’s team.
Since then, she has remained quiet, likely at the insistence of her advisors.
Patrick, 27, will complete her third season with AGR with next week’s race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. She has been in the series since 2005.
Patrick’s assignment Friday was to give two-seater Indy-car rides to a host of contest winners. She was clear in expressing her love and appreciation for the Indianapolis 500.
“I have to say that ’05 Indy was my best memory (in racing), it really was,” she said. "I know a lot of people might say I’d say my first win (in the series) was, but I knew that was coming somewhere, somehow, some way, and I wasn’t shocked (when it happened last year in Japan). I was relieved.
“But that first Indy was all a surprise. There was so much about me leading up to the month, running fast and then almost getting the pole. People tuned in and I almost won the race, too, coming back from a spin, losing my front wing, stalling in the pits early.
“It was a crazy day — a life-changing day.”
