Curtain Call
The Asante Children’s Theatre teams up with Planned Parenthood and Indiana Black Expo to present “Who’s Loving You Now?” this weekend at Butler University.
Described as “a cautionary tale about the pitfalls of teen sexuality,” the presentation is recommended for those 13 and older. Director-writer Deborah Asante emphasizes the importance of parents attending with their teens.
Tickets are $8 in advance (317-627-4755), $10 at the door. Remaining performances are in Studio Theater 168 in Lilly Hall at 8 p.m. today and 4 p.m. Saturday.
“The Mikado,” a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta selected by a poll of patrons, will be the third Indianapolis Opera production of the 2009-10 season. It will be presented March 19 and 21, 2010, in Clowes Hall.
The season will open Oct. 2 and 4 with “Ariadne auf Naxos,” by Richard Strauss.
Puccini’s “La Boheme” will follow Nov. 20 and 22 with Maureen O’Flynn, whose credits include the Metropolitan Opera and La Scala, making her Indianapolis Opera debut as Mimi.
The Shawnee Theatre first mounted “A Streetcar Named Desire” in 1960, during its first season. Another production of the Tennesee Williams drama plays at 8 p.m. today and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
The theater is a mile south of downtown Bloomfield (about 20 miles west of Bloomington) at 4 Furnace Road (812-394-3559). Tickets are $14 for adults, $7 for children.
