Curb the enthusiasm over benefits of green energy

Alex Robertson’s June 8 letter (“Moving ahead economically with clean energy”) is overly optimistic about green energy conversion and disregards inconvenient facts.

As for jobs created by conversion to renewable energy, that simply means that jobs lost in producing non-renewable energy are replaced one for one with jobs created to produce the same quantities of renewable energy. That is zero job growth.

Renewable sources, most of which rely on variable conditions such as wind, will have to be backed up with nonrenewable energy at additional expense.

Conserving non-renewable resources is a worthwhile and necessary goal. Efforts to do so are laudable but should be tempered with balanced analysis of the case for doing so.
