•While congratulations are due for Christina Applegate for her well-deserved Emmy nomination for Samantha Who? (ABC, 8 ET/PT), that won't save the show, which airs its last two episodes tonight. There's no doubt Samantha was mishandled by ABC, which has become ham-fisted when it comes to comedy. But what's done is done, so let's hope the writers knew it was done and provided us with a satisfying conclusion.

•Taylor Swift guests on an intriguing CSI (CBS, 9 ET/PT) that finds Nick investigating three murders at the same motel over the course of the year. It's an excellent episode overall, but for the sake of the character, the actor and the audience, let's hope the show never makes Nick cry again.

•Back on the Emmy front, Mad Men nominee Jon Hamm also scored a guest-star nomination for his terrific work in tonight's 30 Rock (NBC, 9:30 ET/PT) as a man who is so attractive, he's able to float through life in his own special bubble. The construct is very clever and incredibly artificial, which is pretty much the 30 Rock norm. But even those who generally find the show either too inside or too ironic are likely to enjoy Hamm's dumbfounded performance — including his insistence that he be allowed to use "ironic" however he wants.
