Critic's Corner Monday
• Here's good news for some of you. Jon Kate Plus 8 (TLC, 9 ET/PT) is back tonight because, well, did you really think some tiny hiccup like the dissolution of a marriage and destruction of a family could dislodge anyone involved from the gravy train? If nothing else, it should lead to the ickiest TV since Sonny and Cher traded boyfriend barbs on their reconstituted post-divorce variety show, which was an older generation's version of reality.
• Speaking of blood in the water, Discovery is in the midst of one of cable's most popular programming ploys, Shark Week. Tonight's films are Deadly Waters (9 ET/PT) and Day of the Shark II (10 ET/PT).
• History visits Pompeii to explore Sex in the Ancient World (9 ET/PT). It's basic cable, so explicit re-creations are probably out.
• If you're wondering why Jim Parsons was nominated for an Emmy and The Big Bang Theory (CBS, 9:30 ET/PT) should have been, watch tonight's repeat as Parsons' car-free Sheldon finds a way to get thrown out of all of his friends' vehicles. Each scene is equally funny, yet each eviction reflects the characters; there are no interchangeable jokes on Bang. Plus, if you know these characters, you know you don't want to miss Sheldon at the DMV.
