Ben Davis won 19 straight boys’ tennis sectionals, then won its regular-season meeting with Covenant Christian, 4-1.

But given a second chance at the Giants on Saturday, the Warriors reversed the outcome and stopped the streak, beating Ben Davis 3-2 to claim Covenant Christian’s first boys’ tennis sectional championship.

Ben Davis held the edge in singles play, with No. 2 Ryan Bennett and No. 3 Bryan Fouty emerging victorious (Covenant’s Drew Lovern won at No. 1). The difference came in doubles — particularly at No. 2, where Adam Schuttler and Eric Steinke lost the first set 6-2 to David Breece and Patrick Fiddler, but evened the match with a 7-5 second set and clinched the title with a 6-2 third. The Brandon Johnson-Nick Thompson duo also won at No. 1 singles.

Covenant Christian (13-4) will play its first-ever regional match Tuesday at Ben Davis, against No. 7 Plainfield.
