County's symphonic choir opens season this weekend

The Hendricks Symphonic Choir will present "Hymns and Anthems" at its opening concert of the 2008-09 series at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Sunday in Avon Middle School's auditorium.

One of the pieces will be "Abba Father," by well-known contemporary church music composer Carey Landry.

The concert also highlights music from Mozart, Rossini, Moussorgsky, Haydn, Lotti, Palestrina and Gabrieli.

Popular American and Celtic folksongs with familiar melodies also will be performed.

The Plainfield High School concert choir will perform under the direction of Jonelle Heaton.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students from elementary school through college age with college identification. Preschool children are free with a paying adult.

Season tickets are on sale through Sunday, with six concerts for the price of four. Adults are $40, and students are $20.

Tickets will be available at the door or online at www.HendricksSymphonic.com.

The school is at 7199 E. U.S. 36.
