Indiana’s typically wild weather swings, which have gone from shirtsleeve comfort to thermal underwear chills in less than a week, are headed back to the mild side.

The subfreezing cold, officially at 14 degrees this morning as measured by the National Weather Service, is going to depart. Temperatures will reach 32 degrees today, 44 degrees tomorrow and 56 degrees on Thursday.

There’s a chance of showers from Thursday night through Saturday, and a spring like high of 62 degrees on Friday.

The mild and wet weather arrives just in time for two Downtown basketball tournaments this week. The Big Ten women’s tournament will be this weekend at Conseco Fieldhouse, and the IHSAA girls’ basketball finals will be Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The Weather Service forecast says umbrellas will be more useful than winter coats for basketball fans.
