There are a lot of ways to infuse auto racing into life in Indianapolis, including hiring a voice once heard on the Motor Speedway’s Radio Network to perform your wedding. That’s whatElaine Jonesdid last week, when she was stillElaine Swingleyand decided to tie the knot withKeith Jones, a crew member ofGil de Ferran’sMotorsports team.Howdy Bell, a Greenwood man who helped announce 41 Indianapolis 500 races at the Speedway, married the Greenwood couple in a quiet ceremony on Monument Circle Thursday.Elaine said she found Bell listed as an officiant in a wedding planning guide.About 30 attended the ceremony, including de Ferran team General ManagerJohn Anderson.Indianapolis 500 winner de Ferran couldn’t attend because he was in Florida when the couple announced their plans to wed last week, said Anderson.Keith is recovering from a July 2008 pit accident at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Keith, who is known to friends as “Jonesie,” suffered severe burns on several parts of his body, including his face. Elaine has been his major caretaker during his recovery.Although Keith has returned to work with the crew, Thursdays are considered date nights. So, last week Elaine said she decided they would use their time to marry. Keith agreed. After the ceremony, they went to Rock Bottom Restaurant& Brewery for drinks and then for Brazilian food at Fogo de Chao, said Elaine.“It’s kind of hard to plan around racing,” she said. “The opportunity presented itself, so I just jumped at it. It was Thursday date night, so I just made it into a wedding night.”Got a tip?
