Cheers for Victory Field accommodating nursing mom
I am a second-time breastfeeding mom, and I can’t begin to tell you the places I’ve nursed my children: dirty bathrooms, corner booths, even while putting my older child on a public potty. Even though breastfeeding seems to be at an all-time high among new moms, society hasn’t caught on. Aside from Babies R Us and department stores, few other places remember us.
I went to Victory Field last week for an afternoon game with my family. When my son needed to nurse, the thought of doing so in the 90-degree heat made me despair. With the thought that I’d be directed to the nearest bathroom, I inquired at Guest Services if they had a recommendation as to where I could nurse my baby. As soon as I asked, I was whisked away to a private, air-conditioned office, offered a glass of water, and total privacy. I couldn’t believe it. Aside from being impressed at having a private cool place to nurse, I was more impressed that they obviously had a plan in place for breastfeeding mothers.
In a sport that, both on and off the field, is dominated by men, Victory Field was ready and waiting to accommodate this woman. They should be a model for other companies and organizations across the state.
