The exhibit opens Saturday and will remain on display through May 20. The exhibit also will include new work from Spanish surrealistic artist Arneau Alemany and Drew Simpson.
Santos, a artist of Portuguese descent who lives in New Mexico, has had his artwork appear on the covers of magazines such as Juxtapose and American Art Collector. Lurie has worked with Santos for 10 years and shown his artwork in his other studios
“We really want people to come out and see something spectacular,” Lurie said. “He’s an amazing artist. He’s collected by many celebrities, including Scarlet Johansen.”
Lurie said the new artwork will include a piece that is a tribute to the Indianapolis 500.
Lectures will begin at 1 p.m. with Santos, followed by Shaheen at 2:30. The lectures are free and are open to the public.
“It’s a chance for the public to go piece-to-piece with the artist,” said Katherine Livengood, the Evan Lurie Gallery manager.
The gallery event is from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. It is part of Arts&Design District’s Gallery Walk Art. The event will be catered by The Melting Pot.
