Boy found in Noblesville pool dies
A Noblesville 6-year-old who was found unconscious in a condominium pool Saturday died Wednesday evening.
Matthew Oresik was with a group of at least two adults and about a dozen children Saturday at a small indoor pool at the Mallard Pointe Condominiums in the 100 block of Clarendon Drive.
When people began to leave about 8 p.m., they noticed the boy floating underwater near the shallow end of the pool.
It’s unknown how long he had been underwater at that point.
Matthew was taken to Methodist Hospital and died there at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday, hospital spokesman Gene Ford said.
Noblesville Police Lt. Bruce Barnes had said investigators believe Matthew was in his aunt and grandmother’s care at the time of the accident.
Barnes wasn’t immediately available for comment today.
Barry McNulty, Hamilton County Health Department director, said his department will inspect the pool for safety concerns, but didn’t believe its license will be revoked.
The pool is “such a size that lifeguards are not required to be present at all times swimmers are in the pool. From what I understand, and I certainly do not have all the facts, the accident was basically from a lack of supervision,” he said.
