A 6-year-old boy was in critical condition this morning after nearly drowning in an indoor pool at a Noblesville condominium complex, authorities said.

The incident happened shortly before 8 p.m., said Noblesville Police Lt. Bruce Barnes.

Barnes said the child, who has not been identified, was with a group of at least two adults and about a dozen children at small indoor pool located at the Mallard Pointe Condominiums, located in the 100 block of Claredon Drive.

When people began to leave, they noticed the unconscious child floating underwater near the shallow end of the pool.

Emergency dispatchers gave the adults CPR instructions over the phone until first responders arrived on the scene. They transported the child to Riverview Hospital, and later airlifted him to Methodist Hospital, where Barnes said he was in critical condition.

Barnes said police are still conducting interviews with potential witnesses and didn’t know if the adults were drinking at the time.

Barnes was having trouble contacting the child’s mother, who may be estranged from the family. He believed the child was in his aunt’s care at the time of the accident.
