Bollywood Dancing, Day 1
I’d tried Hemalayaa’s “Bollywood Burn” last year. I remember it being a lot of fun, but apparently it wasn’t fun enough for me to add it into my routine.
Who am I kidding? I have no routine. I dance regularly throughout the week (tap and jazz, usually), but that’s honestly not enough to whittle down my weight.
That said, I hate working out. Even with an iPod full of the funniest episodes of “South Park,” I still find sitting on a stationary bike for half an hour one of the most intolerable things in the world. I need to be tricked into shaking my flubber around. Hemalayaa’s dance workouts — which I found in two-pack at Borders — are definitely the just the thing to trick me.
“Bollywood Burn” has three 15-minute sequences. The first serves as an intro, the second gives you more cardio, the third “has you shimmying and bopping like a Bollywood film beauty.” We’ll see about that. For this morning, the day after too many Cadbury chocolate and creme eggs, I chose the first sequence, the bunny slope of Bollywood Burn. I closed the curtains to hide the damage done by not doing Bollywood dance workouts all this time.
The bhangra music, with its heavy beats, is fun. Hemalayaa gets you hopping around pretty quickly after a couple of stretches. She’s nice, too, as far as workout DVD presenters go, but sometimes her diction is a little suuuuurrrrfeeeerrrr, duuuude. Yeeeeeaaaauuh.
Most of the first sequence is a bouncing pliee; the biggest step you’ll learn is the “pitcher” step, a shifting of feet front and back. You can choose to go to the next routine or stop. I stopped for this morning.
My downstairs neighbor probably hates me now, but the jumping up and down definitely got me sweating.
