Bad News for Buffy Sing-A-Long Fans
Did anyone see the article in the Oct. 26 issue of Entertainment Weekly ("No Vamping Allowed") about the abrupt halt of the way-too-cool Buffy sing-a-long productions? A road version came to Indy earlier this year as part of the International Film Fest -- it's a Rocky Horror-type screening of the classic Season Six musical episode Once More with Feeling.
Apparently, the organizer of the event never got permission from SAG or 20th Century Fox TV to charge admission for the shows, and now SAG wants its cut, starting with a six-figure residual for the actors involved in the original episode. 20th Century Fox TV has pulled the plug on the sing-a-long events.
As the organizer, Clinton McClung, put it, "It's a real bummer."
I went to the Friday-night Buffy show at the Film Fest and had a blast. The crowd was small, but those who were there really got into the vibe and played along. I'm really hoping the parties involved can come to an agreement--I'd love to see this return to Indy. I've got new Buffy recruits to initiate!

What a shame! The only thing cooler than vampires are Zombies. My DH(dead husband) got me hooked on Buffy against my will I actually enjoyed the show. The only episode better than the singing one was the one with "The Gentlemen". I am sorry I missed the screening at the international film fest.
Ah, yes, the Hush episode. That one is very creepy. They were going to show it at the Film Fest event, per audience request, after the Sing-a-Long was officially over, and I was psyched to see it on the big screen, even if it was just a DVD version. But the Fest contract with the theater only ran until midnight, so we only got about five minutes into the episode before the theater staff kicked us out!
I was there when the Fest staff kicked everyone out five minutes into "Hush." Such a drag. I understand why Fox wants its cut of the pie, but it's a shame the sing-a-longs have to end. They were Joss sanctioned, even.
