Back to School Bash helps Robey Elementary students with supplies
More than 200 kids received backpacks and school supplies during the Back to School Bash on Saturday at Clermont Christian Church.
The church, 9204 Crawfordsville Road, targeted Robey Elementary School students and families, said Jason Smith, worship minister.
This is the fourth year for the bash, but the first that the Far-Westside church’s members have hosted the event, Smith said. In the past, members’ donations were delivered directly to Robey. Last year, the congregation donated about 70 backpacks full of supplies.
This year, 211 students not only received school supplies and vouchers for shoes, but at the Back to School Bash they also could enjoy food and games, Smith said. The bulk of supplies came from church members or were purchased through donations. Local businesses and clubs also helped.
“It was a huge success,” Smith said. “We’re already talking about how we can serve 300 students next year.”
