Awards recognize service workers
Twelve of the city’s hospitality pros got a special nod Wednesday at the 18th annual ROSE Awards, which honors valets, waiters, concierges and others in the service industry.
“We can have the best . . . facilities in the world, and if we don’t have the people who make that one-on-one connection, it doesn’t matter,” said Bill Benner , spokesman for the Indianapolis Convention&Visitors Association.
The city is well known for its hospitality, he said.
About 90 were nominated for a ROSE (Recognition of Service Excellence) Award, and 12 recipients were chosen.
All nominees traveled to the event at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in limousine and entered on red carpet.
Henry Robinson , Indianapolis Marriott East’s bell captain and concierge, was one of the 12.
Robinson has been praised for taking care of a hotel guest by buying her a satin sleep mask when he heard of her eye surgery, and leading a round of the song “Happy Birthday” to help celebrate her 85th birthday.
Other ROSE Award recipients are: Kirstin “Kiki” Commons , an audio-visual technician at Markey’s Rental&Staging; Darren Fish , a valet at Towne Park (he also works as a concierge at the Westin Indianapolis); Susana Galarza , a breakfast hostess at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel&Suites City Center; Betty Garrison , a server at Mass Ave Pub; Nicki Kasting , a museum store clerk at the Eiteljorg ; Robert Linehan , a lead server in Pullman’s Restaurant; Nikki Miller , a concierge at Renaissance Indianapolis North; Donna Nicholson , a server at The Capital Grille; A.J. Rea , a personal shopper at Nordstrom, Circle Center; Shirley Rameses , a journey ambassador for the Hilton Indianapolis, and Leslie Reimmer , loss prevention officer at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown.
