Avon band member to perform at All-American Bowl
AVON — A member of the Avon Black&Gold Marching band has been chosen to march in a national band.
Senior Jordan Aders, 17, will march with the U.S. Army All-American Bowl marching band during halftime of the U.S. Army All- American Bowl football game Jan. 9 in San Antonio, Texas.
Aders, one of 97 musicians in the game’s band, will play trombone there, but plays baritone in the Avon marching band, which took home the Indiana State School Music Association Class A championship Saturday in Indianapolis.
The All-American Bowl selection team recognized Aders accomplishment Tuesday when they give him the official hat and jacket. He is the first Avon band member to be selected for the All-American Bowl band in its 10-year history.
Ben Davis senior tuba player Jordon Schell was also named a member of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl marching band earlier Tuesday. Last year, Ben Davis senior clarinet player Rachel Bayless marched in the elite band.
Avon and Ben Davis will compete Saturday at the Bands of America regional competition at Lucas Oil stadium then at the Bands of America Grand National Championship Nov. 11-14.
Avon won the Bands of America National championship in 2008, and Ben Davis finished 10th.
