Audit: Town bilked out of $250K by workers
Chesterfield — A state audit has found that the former clerk-treasurer and other employees of a Central Indiana town defrauded it of more than $250,000 over two years.
The State Board of Accounts report says the Chesterfield employees collected money from mileage reimbursements for trips never taken and falsified auto repair claims.
Chesterfield officials requested the audit after Chris Parrish resigned as the town’s elected clerk-treasurer in January.
The audit’s findings include that Parrish approved questionable claims submitted by former Town Marshal James Kimm for $52,553 in mileage reimbursements and $115,391 for car repairs. It also cited improper payments to a former police officer and two former town maintenance workers.
