Brownstown — Authorities say a 6-year-old Southern Indiana girl died after an all-terrain vehicle tipped over and fell on her.

The rollover happened Saturday afternoon while Grace Ann Scarlett was a passenger on the ATV behind her family’s home in Jackson County near Brownstown.

State conservation officer Nathan Berry said the ATV was going up a steep hill when it lost traction and rolled backward. The girl was wearing a helmet but was unconscious when emergency crews arrived, and she was pronounced dead a short time later at a Seymour hospital.

The ATV’s driver was a juvenile whom Berry did not identify.
