CBS is adding a comedy starring Jenna Elfman, a NCIS spinoff and new medical and legal dramas to its mostly stable lineup. But it will move this season's top new show, The Mentalist, to Thursdays at 10 ET/PT.

The top-rated network, up 12% and the only one to grow this season, needs few scheduling fixes, but it's replacing some aging (and expensive) dramas. Among borderline series, CBS has canceled Without a Trace and The Unit while renewing Cold Case and comedies The New Adventures of Old Christine, Gary Unmarried and Rules of Engagement.

The network also is expected to import Medium, canceled Tuesday by NBC. The show will probably followGhost Whisperer on Fridays.

The new series include:

•The Good Wife, starring Julianna Margulies as the wife of a disgraced politician (Chris Noth), who returns to work as a defense lawyer.

Three Rivers, starring Alex O'Loughlin (Moonlight), about a team of organ-transplant surgeons, with stories about patients, donors and doctors.

NCIS: Los Angeles , stars Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J, who appeared in two NCIS episodes this spring.

Accidentally on Purpose, a sitcom starring Elfman (Dharma Greg) as a movie critic with an unconventional family after an unplanned pregnancy with a younger man.

Accidentally will air at 8:30 ET/PT Mondays, with Big Bang Theory sliding in behind Two and a Half Men at 9:30. Wife replaces Trace Tuesdays at 10 ET/PT. Rivers goes to Sundays, paired with Cold Case, now at 10. And with Mentalist's move to Thursdays, NCIS: Los Angeles will air behind NCIS on Tuesdays.

For midseason, look for another medical series, Miami Trauma, from producer Jerry Bruckheimer. CBS also has a new reality series, Undercover Boss, based on a British format in which CEOs secretly take grunt jobs among their employees, which could fill gaps between seasons of Survivor orThe Amazing Race.

Mediumis CBS' first pickup of an NBC castoff since JAGwas canceled by that network after its first season in 1997. The series then ran for nine successful years on CBS and spawned NCIS.
