Assassinate yourself.
Sick and tired of the Christmas show scene and your Egg Nog is thick? Well, look no further the fledgling theatre company, self-deprecatingly named Lowbrow Productions if offering you something to slurp that may please Jim Jones palette more than Santa's. The show? ASSASSINS? The composer? Stephen Sondheim, touted as perhaps the greatest living musical theatre composer or greatest ever to some. With the book (the play part) by John Weidman based on a play by Charles Gilbert Jr which Sondheim and Weidman saw at a workshop in the late 1980's and the just knew it had to be a musical. What is it about? A farmhand in love with a pretty gal? A Kansas girl over the rainbow? A guy throwing his umbrella aside and singing in the rain? Nope. It is about Killing presidents.
Imagine if John Wilkes Booth and Lee Harvey Oswald the most infamous 3 namers in US history got to speak to each other. Imagine no longer. Those 2 and a host of other lesser know but no lesser troubled tales wind together to create a tragic tapestry of what is the US's sordid tales of ASSASSINS. All this created by the mind that will be bringing SWEENEY TODD to movie theatres in just a week or so.
Lowbrow says this about their mission- "Our mission is to facilitate theatre, music, film and video arts productions of the highest quality to entertain, challenge and enlighten. We strive to bring positive change to the community. Assassins is the perfect piece because it dares the audience to challenge the idea of the "American Dream" and examines success, failure and the questionable drive for power and celebrity in American society."
