Someone set fire to four vacant homes on the Near Eastside early this morning, but no one was injured.

The fires in the 1800 block of Brookside Avenue caused an estimated $76,000 in damage, said Rita Reith, a spokeswoman for the Indianapolis Fire Department.

One house was destroyed and sustained $60,000 in losses. A house that was being rehabbed, and the two others, were not badly damaged.

The fire department sent 29 pieces of equipment to the fires at 3:23 a.m. and it took 23 minutes to put them out.

Investigators determined the fires were intentionally set, Reith said.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS.
